A wooden frame with four wires on each of which are 10 beads:

A.      The beads on the first right wire are green and represent Units.

B.      The beads on the second wire are blue and represent Tens.

C.      The beads on the third wire are red and represent Hundreds.

D.      The beads on the left, the fourth wire are green and represent Thousands.

Purpose.

Direct

-          To show the relationship between categories of the decimal system.

-          To clarify position and place value. This helps addition and subtraction.

Control of Error

The child’s ability and the colored lines on the paper.

Age 5 ½ - 6 years
